fall

Ahh, the beauty of fall.  I long to live further north and feel the crispness in the air and see the change of seasons.  Sugar maple trees are my favorite because of the radiant colors they produce beginning this time of year.  Hopefully next weekend we will see some of the beginning of fall in PA, NJ, and MD. Maybe someday I will own a piece of property in NC or VA with a stream and some hardwood trees.  It would be a beautiful place to grow old, sit in a rocking chair, and hold hands with my true companion....

For now though, I must take pleasure in much smaller moments of commercialism.  I just had a bowl of soup and took the leisure of looking through an entire catalog!  Such a luxury...I was so happy to take the day off to be home with Emma who is recovering from a fever and headache, and really should be at school :-).  Anyway, the truth be told, I am a catalog junky :-).  I rarely buy, but love to shop...this first catalog marks the beginning of birthday and Christmas searches for me. In addition to the Christmas gift-giving season, all five of us have our birthdays between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day!  I really enjoy searching for the best gift for each of the people I love.

Today's catalog may be productive to that end:  www.mindware.com.  Meredith recommended it to me for Emma and Ben.  It has the mindstorm for really big kids like Steve too :-).

Nairobi Chapel, University of Nairobi, Kenya

I am so excited today about the University of Nairobi Chapel in Kenya.  In 1990 I spent part of my summer with the pastor of this very small chapel and his beautiful family, Bea and Chircu.  Oscar's church has grown from about 35 in 1990 to more than 3000 members with several connected ministries.  He will be speaking at a huge missions conference called Urbana the week after Christmas.  I would love to reconnect with him and Bea.  I can hardly believe that baby Chircu is 17!!  I have pictures of her on my back at age 2!

Homework

As a teacher, I don't assign much homework; as a mother, I loathe homework!  Emma is still doing long division...I left her at 7:00 for a walk, and she is still at the table at 9:00.  UGH!!  Why wasn't I more diligent with her this summer?
